The Sneaky Way 'Marshals' Paid Tribute to One Late 'Yellowstone' Actor

There was a tribute to Monica Dutton on 'Marshals' on April 5. Viewers did not know that the scene also honored actor Cole Brings Plenty.

Marshals is the new Yellowstone spinoff starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton. If you watch it, then you know his wife, Monica (played by Kelsey Asbille), is not present. She tragically died, leaving Kayce and their son Tate to fend on their own. They are both grieving her loss deeply. Therefore, on the April 5 episode, a solemn remembrance ceremony was held for the young woman.

However, what viewers did not know was that the tribute also honored someone who died in real life. Actor Cole Brings Plenty was in 1923, yet another Yellowstone spinoff. The 27-year-old was discovered deceased two years ago this month. His uncle, actor Mo Brings Plenty, portrayed Mo in Yellowstone and now revisits the character on Marshals.

The On-Set Ceremony Was "Very Emotional"

Actress Arielle Kebbel of Marshals was profoundly affected by the poignant scene. Per People, she said, "We filmed the ceremony and Mo Brings Plenty brought his family to it, and it was a way of honoring his nephew. I will remember that day for as long as I live. It was very emotional." Moreover, Kebbel noted, "And it was a real reminder that the lines between art and life are very blurred and very powerful."

She warmly lauded the Brings Plenty family. "They're sending me handmade jewelry that I'm going to wear in their honor. I mean, it brings me to tears to be part of this community and also to learn more about what happened to Cole and bring that awareness." Per the outlet, Kebbel also shared this. "The experience, she adds, is one that 'you can never plan for going into it, but has deeply impacted me forever.'"

Mo Brings Plenty Mourns the Loss of His Nephew, Cole Brings Plenty

Cole Brings Plenty "was found dead in April 2024 just days after he was named a suspect in a domestic violence case and reported missing," per People. His uncle, Mo Brings Plenty, is still reeling from the untimely demise of his nephew. And he seems to question the thoroughness and integrity of the investigation into the circumstances of Cole's death.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mo said the following recently. "For his murder to go uninvestigated and for it to be written off as 'no foul play,' because they didn't want to invest anything into it? It's heartbreaking. We're not letting it go."

Someone reportedly speaking to the outlet on behalf of the Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department refuted Mo Brings Plenty's claims. This person allegedly said this to the outlet. "The entire case contains clear evidence that there was no foul play involved in Cole's death and that Cole acted alone."
