The 'Yellowstone' Death that's Coming Back to Bite Kayce in Spinoff 'Marshals'

Yellowstone viewers are undoubtedly familiar with the Zone of Death.

The Dutton family referred to the area as the "train station." It's the place where the bodies are literally buried. For example, Rip and Beth Dutton dumped Jamie's body in the series finale of the beloved drama.

This week, the Yellowstone spinoff Marshals spotlights Kayce Dutton's work with the U.S. Marshals, pushing him to confront old family demons head-on.

How does Jamie's death affect Kayce (Luke Grimes) in this latest episode? We have the details below.

The Connection Between "Yellowstone" and "Marshals" Is Becoming Stronger

In the second episode of Marshals, the character Andrea (Ash Santos) said the Zone of Death got its name "because there's no citizens, no law enforcement, no judges or juries, so there's no way to prosecute crimes."

That's when Harry (Brett Cullen), the head of the Montana U.S. Marshals division, begins to grill Kayce about his family.

"Local legend [says] it's been a dumping ground for the region's most depraved criminals," Harry said. "The Duttons, you've been here for over a century. This tale get passed down through generations?"

He replied, "No, that's the first I'm hearing of it."

As they head to the area, Andrea and Miles (Tatanka Means) ask Kayce once again about the Zone of Death. He said it is "the last place you wanna be."

Kayce added that he was nervous about the "unknowns" surrounding the operation. Andrea then asks the question everyone wants the answer to.

"Do you really not know where your brother Jamie is?" she said. Kayce didn't reply.

It's Another Callback to "Yellowstone"

Later in the episode, Kayce got a little nervous when the character Belle sees something "reflecting" across the ravine in her binoculars. This leads Andrea to deduce that the rumors about the Zone of Death are true. However, Kayce gets the team's focus back on the mission.

Marshals is proving to be a way to continue the plot lines of Yellowstone. Sure, it's a procedural, but it's a new and fun way to further the story of the Dutton family.

For example, in last week's episode, it was revealed that Kayce's wife, Monica, had died. It leads him to find a new life for himself and his son, Tate.

We're certainly excited to see how all of this unfolds in episodes to come.
