Just days after Glen Campbell passed away, Chris Stapleton honored the country legend with a rousing cover of his trademark hit “Rhinestone Cowboy.”
Stapleton was performing in Hershey, Pa. as a part of his ongoing All-American Road Show Tour when he took a moment to honor Campbell.
“I’m gonna try to do a Glen Campbell song tonight, not because I’m gonna do a great job with it, but because I want to pay my respects to Mr. Campbell,” Stapleton said onstage. “Please forgive me if I don’t quite do Glen Campbell justice. I’m sending this out tonight to Glen, wherever you’re at tonight, Mr. Campbell.”
Campbell passed away after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s on Aug. 8. Although his family had been open about the evolution of his disease, the loss still hit the country community hard.
On Aug. 9, Campbell was laid to rest in his hometown of Delight, Ark. during a private service. Although no official public memorials have been arranged, don’t be surprised to see more country artists paying tribute to Campbell over the coming weeks.
