Another celebrity couple is about to head down the aisle. Actress Zooey Deschanel and HGTV's Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott are officially engaged.
Deschanel and Scott announced the joyous news with a photo shared to both of their Instagram accounts on Monday, Aug. 14. According to People, Scott proposed during a family trip to Scotland. In Deschanel's announcement post, she and Scott smile in front of a castle. The sweet selfie also shows off Deschanel's engagement ring, which features clear, purple and pink stones. People also confirmed that Deschanel's 8-year-old daughter Elsie and 6-year-old son Charlie "played a role" in the engagement.
The couple added a simple, but loving caption alongside the photo: "Forever starts now!!!"
Scott's choice to propose in Scotland was reportedly a meaningful one, as his father emigrated from the country as a teen. Scott and his twin brother/HGTV co-star Drew often pay homage to their heritage. For example, the two brothers wore kilts to Drew's 2018 wedding.
Scott and Deschanel met in 2019 when the two of them and their respective siblings, Drew and Emily Deschanel, appeared on an episode of Carpool Karaoke. The four reportedly went out to sing more karaoke after filming. Scott and Deschanel became friends and soon love interests. Deschanel announced her separation from then-husband Jacob Pechenik in September 2019, and she and Scott were seen holding hands in public soon after. They confirmed their relationship in October. The two moved in together in 2020, buying a 1938 home that they then renovated for two years.
Scott has been married once — to flight coordinator Kelsey Ully from 2007 to 2010. Deschanel has had two previous marriages. She was married to Death Cab for Cutie band member Ben Gibbard from 2009 to 2012 and to film producer Jacob Pechenik from 2015 to 2020. She shares her two children with Pechenik.
