Zac Brown has no intention of backing away from singing the national anthem at the UFC Freedom 250 event. The country star has received significant backlash for agreeing to take the gig, primarily because it's seen as him taking a political stance.
Zac Brown Explains Why He's Singing National Anthem at UFC Freedom 250 Event
Zac Brown has no intention of backing away from singing the national anthem at the UFC Freedom 250 event, despite recent backlash.
"Man, I'm there for the troops," Brown told McAfee. "I'm there to honor America. This is patriotism, not politics for me. F*** all the division. I don't believe in that, I love this country, and I love all the people that have sacrificed so that I can live my American dream and that everyone that lives here gets a chance to do that."
Brown continued defending his stance, noting that his decision to sing the national anthem had nothing to do with politics. Instead, it's because of his love for the country and his rabid UFC fandom.
"It doesn't have a place in politics for me," he said. "There's gonna be like 8,000 active servicemen that are going to be there. I'm a massive UFC fan. I've watched every single UFC probably multiple times. It's my favorite sport, and I'm honored that Dana is giving me the opportunity to do this."
Zac Brown Seems Set on Singing the National Anthem
Right now, Zac Brown has shown no signs of stepping away from the spotlight. His comments to McAfee have made it clear that he will still be singing the national anthem. In truth, it's a huge opportunity for the country star.
This will be the first time in history that a sporting event has been held at the White House. It is also the one and only time the USA will enjoy a 250th birthday. Opportunities like this don't come around too often.
Unfortunately, Brown will have to accept that there will be a section of his fanbase, and the wider population, who don't agree with his decision. However, as with anything in life, it's impossible to please everyone. If Brown didn't know that before, he's learning it now.
