One man decided to follow his dreams by converting an ancient, forgotten cave into the home of his dreams.
Hidden away in the Wyre Forest of Worcestershire, England, this one-of-a-kind abode is a true sanctuary for Angelo Mastropietro, who spent $230,000 to make his dream a reality. The 38-year-old was living in the lap of luxury while working for a successful recruitment company in Australia. Everything changed when he was temporarily paralyzed and later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
This life-altering event led him to return to his home country of England, where he invested in a piece of real estate filled with beautiful sandstone cliffs. He threw caution to the wind and decided to spend his days creating a breathtaking home out of a 700-year-old cave on his property. He spent hours carving away the stone to create his new kingdom, which features all the modern amenities you could ever need.
Three wood stoves help heat the space, and windows were installed in carved openings to allow as much natural light in as possible. The kitchen is fully functional, and fresh water flows into the incredible hand-carved shower from the outdoors. Although it might not be the perfect destination for claustrophobics, most can appreciate Mastropietro's efforts to showcase the beauty of our natural surroundings.
