Wynonna Judd Stunned by Rosie O’Donnell’s Claim About Her Political Beliefs

It seems Rosie O’Donnell made a pretty strong assumption when it comes to her pal Wynonna Judd’s political beliefs.

Back in August, the 64-year-old comedian and TV host held up her longtime friend Judd as an example of a supporter of President Donald Trump, with whom she remains friends.

"I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I've known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow we never bring it up," O'Donnell said on  The Tangle podcast at the time. "I kind of give her a grace in a way. "

"She's had so much in her life, with her mom taking her own life, and just the complicated nature of her upbringing,' O'Donnell added about her country music singer friend. "And I really love her, and I care about her, and for some reason I'm able to put that aside when we interact."

However, Judd recently gently pushed back against her friend's assumptions about her politics.

"I'm in shock, just so you know," the 62-year-old told PEOPLE about O'Donnell's comments. "I've never spoken to her about politics in my life. She doesn't know anything about my stuff. I'm an independent," the "No One Else on Earth" singer insisted.

Wynonna Judd on Rosie O'Donnell's Comments About Her Politics: 'I Don't Want the Drama'

The country music legend told the outlet she normally keeps her political beliefs to herself. That said, she also pointed out she's not "not angry" about O'Donnell's comments. Still, she was left scratching her head a bit over them.

"I don't know where it came [from]. It's complete assumption," Judd explained to PEOPLE. "I heard it and I went, 'What the...?' I don't ever remember talking to her about this, so she's just assuming.' I just don't want drama. So if there's going to be drama [about it], I'm like, 'Oh for crap's sake, there's so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?'"

Meanwhile, O'Donnell's mind was made up about Judd's political beliefs because the "Tell Me Why" singer was willing to perform on Trump's private resort after he got into politics.

"I just thought as she has performed at Mar-a-Lago, that she was [a Trump supporter]. I apologize if I was wrong," O'Donnell reasoned in a statement to PEOPLE.

Indeed, the outlet points out that Judd performed at the sprawling Palm Beach, Florida, compound back in 2023.

Regardless, here's hoping love can build a bridge over the misunderstanding for the longtime friends.

Judd's new album, The Hard Truth, is out now.
