Following the news of Condrey's death, Dax Harwood, a three-time AEW Tag Team champion, issued a statement on Instagram. Harwood noted that "The Midnight Express" is undoubtedly one of the greatest tag teams in wrestling history.
"Greatest of All Time scenarios will always be a hot button for debate," Harwood wrote. "However, when it comes to the greatest tag teams of all time, almost always, The Midnight Express is brought up."
Harwood then continued by sharing some memories of Condrey.
"Dennis and I would text after every match I had," Harwood noted. "He would always tell me what he liked and what he felt I could work on. That is something that'll never be lost on me. One of my heroes loved me enough to take time out of his day to let me know how proud he was of me."
Condrey made his pro wrestling debut in 1973. He helped establish the first iteration of "The Midnight Express" in 1980, teaming with "Ravishing" Randy Rose and Norvell Austin in 1980. In 1983, the faction was rebuilt around Condrey, "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton and the legendary Jim Cornette.
"The Midnight Express" performed for multiple wrestling companies throughout their careers. However, they will be best known for their seven-year span with the WWE between 2004 and 2011. More recently, they made some cameo appearances in AEW, including one at the start of Harwood's heel turn, along with Cash Wheeler.
AEW Has Issued a Statement Regarding the Passing of Dennis Condrey
Upon learning the news of Condrey's death, AEW (All Elite Wrestling) released a statement on social media.
"AEW and the wrestling world are mourning the passing of Loverboy Dennis Condrey, one half of the legendary Midnight Express," AEW wrote on X. "Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time."
Condrey's loss will hit the professional wrestling world hard. He was clearly still involved in the business as a mentor and a friend. Hardwood has since set up a GoFundMe to help Condrey's wife, Theresa, with funeral expenses and living costs.
There are currently no details regarding his funeral. They will likely remain private, for close friends and family.
