While promoting the reboot of American Gladiators, which begins streaming this week on Prime Video, the WWE wrestler said he was "taking credit for Jelly Roll's, basically, new look, if you will."
How Did The Miz Help Jelly Roll Lose Weight?
As you may recall, The Miz, born Michael Gregory Mizanin, his tag team partner R-Truth, and Jelly Roll appeared together at SummerSlam in 2024.
During that match, the trio faced heels Austin Theory and Grayson Waller in the ring. At one point, the "Need A Favor" singer launched Theory in the air with a massive chokeslam.
PEOPLE reports that Mizanin said that moment was a turning point for the country music star.
"Before he lost all the weight, he choke-slammed a [WWE] superstar, and he kind of fell, and I had to pick him up," he said. "In that moment, he actually told me, he was like, 'That's when I realized, when I was in that ring, that I needed to make a change for the better. And he did."
Mizanin then jokingly added, "So yeah — I am taking credit, and I am patting myself on the back. But no — he did do blood, sweat and tears. And now he's preparing for WrestleMania 42, as am I."
Jelly Roll and the Miz Are Preparing for WrestleMania
While Mizanin may have been kidding about his role in Jelly Roll's weight loss, he wasn't joking about the "Save Me" singer's role in WrestleMania.
According to longtime WWE insider Dave Meltzer, Jelly Roll is likely planned for WrestleMania, and his return on SmackDown last month is to set up a storyline.
Then we reported that on the April 10 edition of SmackDown, Randy Orton gave the singer a beating, making him a part of the feud between Orton and Cody Rhodes.
"The Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicates that WWE currently has plans for [Pat] McAfee to team with Orton at Backlash in a tag bout against Rhodes and award-winning singer Jelly Roll," reported WrestlingInc.com.
This could also lead to Jelly Roll appearing at WWE Backlash on May 9 in Florida. If he does take part in that Premium Live Event, it will be his third major event with the WWE.
