Childbirth can sometimes go catastrophically wrong, as one woman found out when she was pronounced dead during the birth of three triplets.

Marisa Christie had been trying for a baby for some time with her partner. Various methods had given no results until they tried an ovulation trigger shot. This method ended up being far too effective. They managed to get triplets for their hard work.
So, not wanting to push triplets out, Marisa Christie, 30, decided a cesarian was the right thing to do. You can't blame her. At 33 weeks, she went into the hospital for her planned operation, excited but nervous for there three new members of her family.
However, things took a turn for the worse and while delivering the triplets, Christie went into shock. She was suffering from amniotic fluid embolism. As she began having seizures, the chances of her survival dropped. According to the doctors, 80-85% of AFE cases are fatal.
New Mother Dies On The Table Just After Delivering Triplets
The new mother of triplets was losing a lot of blood. As the surgeons worked to close her uterus, the blood loss became drastic. She was hooked up to an ECMO machine which essentially takes over the process of the heart. It replaced almost all of her blood.
For an hour, the new triplet's mother was dead. Her heart had stopped, and she was clinically no longer in the land of the living. While bringing in three new lives, she had lost her own. However, doctors struggled on, doing what they could to drag her from the edge.
After she gave birth to her three triplets, Christie was in intensive care being carefully watched by her doctor. "You can do the best CPR in the world, but if you don't get enough blood to the brain, essentially they are alive but with brain damage," he said. "I needed her to live to raise her kids. So, it was a personal thing for me."
Due to the close attention and hard work of the doctors, a week later she came out of the induced coma. She was finally able to meet her triplets. "I remember thinking, 'I don't know these babies. This is very strange. They feel like they're not real." Opening up about the oddness of it all, she said "They feel like they're not mine. They were already over a week old by the time I had met them. ... It took a little bit to get that connection with them."
Thankfully, Charlotte, Kendall, and Collins are all absolutely fine and are happily reunited with their mother, risen from the dead.
