Woman Lost Her Home And Dog To Storm, Two Months After Losing Her 6-Year-Old Son

An Indiana woman, Ashley Richardson, tragically lost her home and one of her dogs during a storm that hit Randolph County. This, unfortunately, was the only tragedy she had to endure this year. Two months earlier, on February 25, Richardson's six-year-old son, Jase, died in his sleep.

On Wednesday, April 2, according to WISH, a severe weather event hit Parker City in Randolph County, where Richardson's mobile home is located. When the storm hit, Richardson was trapped inside her car, unable to reach her home, instead watching how it was destroyed by the storm.

"My windows busted out," Richardson told the outlet. "The debris were coming everywhere and hitting me, and I ducked my head and he got me out of my vehicle because I couldn't open my door."

She instantly become worried about her two dogs, Ottis and Mario. Ottis was reportedly trapped underneath the debris while Mario escaped.

"I couldn't get to him," Richardson said, referring to Ottis. "I couldn't go back in and get him and he was trapped underneath and I think it crushed him. But he was alive when they found him and my sister-in-law and brother took him to the vet and there was nothing they really could do."

Unfortunately, Ottis had to be euthanized. Costs were covered by a Good Samaritan and the VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center in Fishers, as per the outlet. Fortunately, Ashley Richardson did manage to reunite with Mario after the storm ended.

Mother And Son

Inside her home, however, lay something very close to Richardson's heart. Those were Jase's ashes, her 6-year-old son who died in his sleep in February 2025. Reportedly, family and friends eventually found the ashes at the wreckage, with the search lasting for 13 hours. Jase's ashes were intact.

"His ashes were in the living room," Richardson said.. "When the trailer got ripped out his ashes were (found) on top of my car."

Remembering Jase, Ashley Richardson said that he was the love of her life and a "happy 6-year-old." Her sister-in-law, Britanny Detzel, spoke highly of Jase, saying, "He never knew a stranger. He never knew any pain of sadness. He was just a really happy kid."

Ashley's other sister-in-law, Chasity Richardson, talked about how many others helped them clear the wreckage, which led to them finding the ashes.

"Our couple of people turned into more people which turned into more people," Chasity said. "And literally in 7 hours they pretty much have everything cleared out, and it's crazy to me how everyone just shows up."

As per the outlet, Ashley Richardson is planning to build a home at the place where her mobile home stood.
