On February 8, per numerous outlets such as Wach Fox 57, Michele Gillis was set on fire. Despite experiencing third-degree burns to her upper body and face, she managed to survive the initial attack.
Unfortunately, she passed away on February 20. According to those outlets, her injuries were to blame per the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office.
Citing the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office (OCSO), the reports said that Gillis claimed her boyfriend, Harry Wolfe, set her ablaze. He walked into the sitting room and said he was "going to get her" before dousing her in gasoline and striking a match.
He fled the scene, where he collided with Orangeburg Department of Public Safety emergency fire vehicle. Wolfe had to be transported to a medical center for his injuries.
Wolfe Confirms To Have Set Gillis On Fire, But Without Intent To Kill
The motives of Wolfe remain unclear, and a history of domestic abuse is being questioned. Before her death, Gillis confirmed that Wolfe had "been physical" in the past
. Per WIS 10, according to Gillis' son, Terrance Bottoms, the suspect admitted the act to Bottoms' aunt. The outlet also obtained an incident report, that says Wolfe also admitted the act to the authorities.
However, he never claims that he never wanted to kill her.
"One time is too much because if he did that to my mom, he had to have been physical with her at some point," said Bottoms.
"We're steady asking investigators, 'What can you tell us? What happened?' Because the only thing we knew at that point was he called my aunt and said he lit my mother on fire. We didn't even get a full story of what happened until the news reports came out."
Considering what's been said by the suspect, victim, and family members, it's no wonder Wolfe has been arrested without bond. His fate is currently unknown and unclear.
