The Baby Was Only Five Months Old
As the New York Post reports, officers discovered the mother and child at 3:38 a.m. at 2550 Olinville Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The New York Police Department told the outlet that the injuries were consistent with a fall from an elevated position.
The two victims were rushed to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition. The woman was later pronounced dead.
The baby is believed to be a 5-month-old girl. Authorities have not confirmed that they were thrown from the balcony. Another witness said she heard someone yelling, "Please don't do this!"
It is unclear whether the woman and the baby are mother and daughter. Officers have been seen entering the complex as the investigation continues.
This Comes Weeks After Another Incident in the Bronx
Back in August, police stated that a 5-year-old boy fell out of a window from the fourth or fifth floor of a building in the Bronx.
Police said the boy had "injuries indicative of falling from an elevated position." A video shows the child on the sidewalk, not moving. His arms are also outstretched, and his head is lying on the ground.
One passerby shouted at the top of his voice, "Where is the f*****g parents, man?"
The building's superintendent pointed out that the window the boy fell out of had a guard. It is meant to act as a safety device to prevent young children from falling out. However, the boy appeared to climb over it and slip through.
The boy was then rushed to the hospital. At the time of the report, he was recovering and in stable condition.
