According to a report by the New York Post, police accuse Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, of purchasing the Easter treats from a supermarket while wearing a disguise. Per People, the incident occurred on April 16. Barbosa allegedly 'spiked' the eggs and sent them to her ex's new partner, Mirian Lira. She reportedly shared the chocolates with her children. Her son, Luis Silva, 7, became violently ill after consuming the eggs, and Emergency Services rushed him to Imperatriz City Hospital. According to The Standard, Luis died within hours.

Mirian and her 13-year-old daughter Evelyn Fernanda are also both in critical condition after eating the chocolate and are 'intubated in intensive care.'

The Standard reports that the eggs arrived with a note attached which read, "With love to Mirian Lira, Happy Easter." Lira reportedly shared the chocolates with her family before receiving an anonymous phone call confirming the Easter eggs arrived. Investigators are testing the chocolate, and authorities expect Luis' autopsy to reveal his cause of death as poisoning.

CCTV Appears To Show Barbosa Purchasing The Easter Eggs In Disguise

Imperatriz Online has shared CCTV footage from behind the supermarket counter. It appears to show Barbosa purchasing the eggs while wearing a black wig and sunglasses. A translated report from the outlet says Barbosa sent the eggs after an earlier failed plot where she allegedly tried to give Lira chocolates in a 'tasting session' where she worked.

According to the Daily Mail, police reportedly found receipts for the eggs, and Barbosa's ex allegedly believes she may be involved. Police arrested Barbosa on a bus en route to her home in Santa Inês from a hotel in Imperatriz. The outlet explains that the hotel is in the same city as Lira and her family. It's also 200 miles from Santa Inês.

Barbosa reportedly admitted to police that she purchased the Easter eggs, although she denies poisoning them. Maurício Martins, a security official, allegedly said that evidence suggests the crime was "motivated by revenge and jealousy." He reportedly said in a statement, "There are several indications that clearly point to this woman being the perpetrator of the crime."
