Police accuse Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, of purchasing Easter eggs last week in a supermarket while wearing a disguise. She was caught on CCTV wearing a black wig and sunglasses at the counter. Barbosa then allegedly poisoned them and sent the chocolates to her ex-boyfriend's family via a courier. Mirian Lira reportedly received the Easter eggs and shared them with her kids. She and her two children quickly became ill, and her 7-year-old son, Luis Silva, died within hours. Lira remains in intensive care with her 13-year-old daughter.
According to a report by People, police believe the incident on April 16 is actually the second time Barbosa has attempted to harm Lira.
Mirian Lira works in a supermarket, and investigators reportedly believe that Barbosa visited her workplace offering chocolate tasting. Staff allegedly asked her to leave when she failed to provide information on the company she supposedly worked for. Barbosa reportedly left the supermarket and waited in the parking lot instead. She tried to give out chocolates to the staff, but Lira was not present. People explains that it remains unclear if any of Lira's colleagues were harmed.
After both attempts failed, Barbosa reportedly bought the eggs and sent them to Lira's home. They allegedly arrived with a message attached, which read, "With love to Mirian Lira, Happy Easter."
