The sickening crime happened in Brazil. Pregnant teen Emily Sena was nine months pregnant when she went missing. Authorities later found her body in the backyard of Nataly Pereira and Christian de Arrunda on Thursday.
Authorities arrested the couple at a hospital after they tried to pass off the baby as their own. They were trying to register the newborn. From there, Pereira admitted that she had murdered the pregnant teen and took her baby. Pereira was hoping to pass off the teen's baby as her own.
She had recently suffered a miscarriage and didn't want her family to know. According to the Brazilian outlet g1, Pereira lured the pregnant teen to her house via WhatsApp. She then allegedly murdered the teen and cut out the baby.
"She said she had received a lot of baby clothes and wanted to donate some to Emilly," Sena's mother Ana Paula Meridiane said to g1.
Pregnant Teen Dies
Police Chief Caio Alexandre confirmed that the teen had been strangled. She also had cuts to her abdomen as well. "T-shaped marks on her abdomen indicated that she was still alive when the baby was taken with a bladed weapon," he said.
Authorities also found defensive wounds on the body as well. From there, the couple took the newborn to the hospital to get it registered. However, a blood test showed that the woman wasn't pregnant and that the baby wasn't hers.
Her lawyer said that she suffered a miscarriage and pretended to still be pregnant.
"This would be the second time she had had a miscarriage and so she decided to maintain this false pregnancy," they said. "According to calculations, this daughter she had lost would have been born during this period."
Meanwhile, the woman's husband has denied being involved in the crime. He did not know his wife murdered the teen and thought the baby was his.
"The investigation is still on site to find out the dynamics of what happened," Alexandre said.
