According to a report by ABC7, the incident occurred at 112th and Stewart in the Roseland area at around 5 PM. The victim was reportedly running along Stewart when the driver hit her. Police have not revealed any details concerning the driver's identity and are still trying to track her down. Per the Daily Mail, the driver was in a Sedan and collided with the 17-year-old. Instead of staying at the scene, the driver reportedly got out of her vehicle and fled the area on foot, leaving the runner injured on the ground. It's unclear if the runner was on the road or sidewalk at the time.

The 17-Year-Old Is In Critical Condition In Hospital

Emergency Services transported the victim to Advocate Christ Medical Center. She remains in a critical condition and sustained 'blunt trauma' according to NBC Chicago. The outlet explains that police are calling for witnesses to come forward and are still trying to track down the driver. Authorities have not revealed the victim's identity.

Per the Daily Mail, Illinois law states that drivers involved in crashes that involve injury or death must stop and remain at the scene until they have fulfilled all legal obligations. Drivers must also provide their details to authorities and provide 'reasonable assistance' to any injured persons.

Unfortunately, hit-and-run incidents are all too common across the US. Earlier this month, a vehicle reportedly 'rear-ended' a Ford Focus and did not stop. The collision disabled the Focus, sending it across multiple lanes of traffic. Another driver, Tayler Ross, 31, spotted the disabled Focus. She pulled over to the hard shoulder to provide assistance. However, a blue Mitsubishi Mirage struck her on the highway as she tried to help.

The Mitsubishi driver stayed on the scene, and authorities treated him with non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital. Tragically, Ross and the unnamed driver of the Ford both died from their injuries. Police pleaded for help in tracking down the driver and vehicle that hit the Focus.
