As a person who is terrified of heights, this story is extra terrifying to me. I can honestly say that window washing has never been a dream job of mine, for obvious reasons. However, certain brave souls sign up to do it every day. Additionally, they aren't just washing any windows. No, they are washing massive ones on sky scrapers that are hundreds of feet up in the air. Well, two window washers got the scare of a lifetime as they had to dangle for their lives after their scaffolding broke.

People Look On In Horror As Window Washers Dangle For Their Lives
The NY Post shares that "First responders were called to 25 Columbus Circle around 9:47 a.m. after a 911 call about the window washers trapped on the building's 78th floor." At some point during their shift, the scaffolding broke, causing these window washers to dangle for their lives. When first responders arrived to the scene, the scaffolding was only being held on by its security lines.
Additionally, the high-wind conditions did nothing to promote safety or add ease to the situation. Footage from the event shows the scaffolding billowing back and forth as the men clung on for dear life. Not only was this terrifying event dangerous for the two window washers but to all those around as well.
The high-wind caused the scaffolding to spin out of control and smash into the windows of the building. This shattered the glass, which easily could have affected those inside of their apartments. Additionally, all those below now had to fear the razor sharp glass that was falling from the sky.
Firefighters Issue An Incredible Rescue After Scaffolding Broke
Firefighters had a tough job on their hands, but luckily they prevailed. Although the window washers had harnesses on, they were not attached to the security lines. This made their situation all the more deadly. While officers worked on the ground to secure the street and clear it of pedestrians, the firefighters began work up on the 78th floor.
They secured the scaffolding with ropes. Then, they safely pulled the two window washers who were dangling for their lives inside of the open window. Afterward, the NY Post shares that the two men were transferred to Cornell Hospital. There they were both reported to be in stable condition.
