Willie Nelson has certainly done his share of collaborations, but fans now have a new pairing to look forward to. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Nelson and rock legend Van Morrison are recording together.
The Post-Gazette reports that The Church Recording Studio received a request for a three-day recording session from Belfast, Ireland. When the studio was told the request came from Van Morrison, they were skeptical — until the check arrived.
Shortly after, the studio received word that Nelson would be attending the session along with the "Moondance" singer.
"A little later on, we got a call from Willie Nelson's management to let us know that he'd be attending as well, which was an unbelievable thought, having those two guys collaborating in our space," studio producer Dave Hidek told the Post-Gazette. "Having either one walk through our doors would in itself be a treat, to put it lightly, but both of them together would certainly be a historic experience."

Hidek said seeing Nelson and his historic guitar Trigger in person was as special and surreal as you'd imagine.
"For being 85, he's still got that vocal magic, and his performance holds you hostage from the first note to the last note," Hidek told the Post-Gazette. "Hearing Trigger [his guitar] in person made it abundantly clear as to why Willie refuses to let it go. In all it was a very special experience, like something that you've appreciated all your life, but in an intangible way, now suddenly standing right in front of you and wanting to know what you think. Definitely something that I'll remember for a long time."
The legends were joined by Nelson's son, singer-songwriter Lukas Nelson, longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael and producer Buddy Cannon.
Nelson and Morrison were in Pennsylvania headlining the Outlaw Music Festival along with Sturgill Simpson, Brandi Carlile, Lukas Nelson + Promise of the Real and more.
There's no word yet on when the project will be released or whether the recording is for an upcoming Nelson or Morrison album. This marks the first time the two have recorded together.
Nelson released his new album, My Way, an album of Frank Sinatra covers, on Sept. 14.
