The series follows Kayce Dutton after the events of Yellowstone. He joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals to bring range justice to Montana.
The show's popularity should come as no surprise. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the show's premiere had over 20 million viewers across multiple platforms. Several weeks later, it was one of the most-watched shows on both broadcast and streaming television.
But will the show, which wrapped up its first season last Sunday, May 24, return for another season? We have the answers below.
Spoilers for "Marshals" Ahead
If you haven't watched the season finale of Marshals yet, consider this your warning: spoilers ahead.
During the last episode of the season, several storylines remained unresolved, such as the fate of Cal and Belle and who actually ordered the assassination of Thomas Rainwater. There are also a few unanswered questions about the future of the Broken Rock reservation.
Will viewers get their answers in the second season?
Fortunately for fans, the answer is yes. CBS shared on March 12 that Marshals is getting a second season in the fall.
"The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character-driven storytelling from the creative team, and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes," CBS boss Amy Reisenbach said in a statement.
What Will the Second Season of the "Yellowstone" Spinoff Be About?
There hasn't been an official synopsis for Marshals season 2. However, we imagine it will revolve around who is behind the attempts on Rainwater's life and if Weaver is connected.
Plus, with a cartel present on the Broken Rock reservation, the marshals will have to continue working with Rainwater to bring order to the area.
Actor Logan Marshall-Green confirmed that he will be involved for season 2. He also shared that as his character battles cancer, his relationship with Belle and his daughter will continue to evolve.
"There's always something, and the next phase is going to be this cancer," he said. "I don't want a pussyfoot around it. I want the stakes to be as high as possible, and that's something I always talk about on set every day, every sentence, every scene. Stakes are high and keep them high. So even though it was great to hear my daughter say the word 'dad,' there's always something coming down the road with life."
The exact premiere date for the second season of Marshals has not yet been announced. However, it is confirmed that it will happen in the fall. Until then, if you need to catch up on episodes, they are available to stream on Paramount+.
