Christopher Reeve's Son Reveals First Sign of Cancer He Nearly Dismissed as "Nothing"

Will Reeve, a correspondent for Good Morning America who is also the late Superman actor Christopher Reeve's son, has made his battle with testicular cancer public. He announced it on the show on Tuesday, September 29. It was a shocker. At 34, he had gotten married earlier this year to Amanda Dubin. His life seemed to be going smoothly. Then came the diagnosis that no one wants to hear. Fortunately in Reeve's case. after two surgeries and chemo, he is doing very well. That is the best news of all.

One of the main reasons that Will Reeve decided to describe his ordeal to the world was to alert people to the signs of testicular cancer. He also hopes to encourage anyone with questions or problems to see a health care provider. In fact, Reeve almost shrugged off one of the first indications that he had the illness.

"I Assumed It Was Nothing"

Reeve shared with People that he nearly ignored something that turned out to be extremely important. "At some point in April, I noticed something was off in the shower. It was a tender lump on my testicle, and I was concerned, but figured that it would pass." He added, "As is common for young, healthy men like myself, I assumed it was nothing or that it would go away," But it did not disappear.

Reeve's wife insisted that he get an ultrasound. It's a good thing that she did. There were key next steps to be taken.

He explained to the outlet, "It turns out when a man has a mass in that part of the body, you cannot do a biopsy for fear of it being cancerous and then the needle of the biopsy spreading cancer. I learned in real time that I would need an orchiectomy, which is the removal of the testicle."

He Underwent That Procedure, Then More Had To Be Done

Most of Will Reeve's cancer turned out to be embryonal carcinoma. That is usually an aggressive form. Therefore, many lymph nodes in his abdomen had to be surgically removed; some were cancerous. Thus treatment with chemo was necessary. As of September 8, Will Reeve is free of cancer. A great outcome for him.

Amanda Reeve reiterated a version of what she probably told her husband. Per the outlet, she advised,  "Even if it's just a reminder to young men, if there's something wrong, go to the doctor — because they're the first group to brush things off to the side."
