Ricky Schroeder got to know Dolly Parton when he played her father Lee Parton in the made-for-television film based on her life, Coat of Many Colors.

The Silver Spoons actor, who is perhaps better known for his online political rants than his on-screen roles, paid tribute to the "Jolene" singer as the news of her death became public. But rather than share a touching memory of Parton, Schroeder made it political. We have the details below.
What Did Ricky Schroeder Say About Dolly Parton?
Schroeder posted a picture of him and Parton on Instagram, but it was the caption that caused the uproar.
"I didnt agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support...but Loved her anyway," he wrote. "Thank you for choosing me Dolly to be your Movie Daddy."
As her fans know, Parton made it a point to stay out of politics. When asked in 2023 if she would consider a presidential run, she responded with her trademark grace and humor.
"I think we've had enough 'boobs' in the White House," she said. "I would have no interest in politics."
The Backlash Was Swift
Schroeder chose to bring his beliefs into a tribute to someone who truly respected everyone. Perhaps that's why there has been considerable backlash against Schroeder's post.
"Too bad you couldn't have learned more from her," one user wrote. "You dishonor her in your 'tribute' and she would take you to task for it. Shame on you!"
Another added, "Remember 2 days ago when everyone had forgotten your mediocre ass and life was normal. Now look at you. Hated. And we still cant remember your minuscule career."
"What a weird a— backhanded thing to say," someone else said. "She's literally gone and the first thing you want to say is what you don't like about what she believed or supported. You don't have to agree with everything a person does to give them flowers. She was definitely what it means to love everyone equally and sadly you are not one of those good people. Could've just kept that to yourself, but it's very telling why you aren't big or famous now."
And in case you were wondering, Schroeder's last IMDb credit is as an executive producer on the 2017 documentary, The Volunteers. His last acting credit came a year before, when he reprised his role as Parton's father in Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
