Whataburger Worker Takes Down Angry Customer in Crazy Viral Video

A wild incident at a Whataburger outlet in Paris, Texas, occurred because of an unruly customer. The manager took matters into his own hands.

We've all seen customers in stores, restaurants, or fast food locations who get impatient and irate. Employees can have a hard time devising a strategy for dealing effectively with such people. They don't always respond the way we would like or hope. That type of incident took place at a Whataburger outlet in Paris, Texas, recently. The manager got pretty heated himself. He took matters into his own hands, though, and addressed the problem in a novel way.

What Precipitated the Incident

Per the New York Post, "A Texas Whataburger manager smashed an unruly customer with a trash can after the suspect allegedly berated staff, returned to the restaurant drunk and attacked the employee." That must have been quite a melee.

According to WFAA, on Sunday, February 22, police were asked to come to the Paris Whataburger location at North Main Street because a customer was being "verbally abusive to the staff." The manager supposedly told that person to leave. He did so, but threatened to return and physically harm the manager as soon as law enforcement personnel left the establishment.

The Man Came Back

The troublesome person did return. According to a police press release mentioned by the outlet, he allegedly punched the manager repeatedly. The manager at last got the person to leave, allegedly whacking him with a trash can to stop his reportedly abusive behavior. A video captures the bizarre scene.

Per the outlet, "The suspect was later identified as 41-year-old Anthony William Newhuis of Spring, Texas."

Police later discovered him bleeding from head injuries in the Whataburger parking lot. Newhuis was placed under arrest. He was charged with public intoxication as well as assault.

Employees Supposedly Pitched Into the Fray

According to another account of the fast-food fracas on Fox4 KDFW, an employee also used a wire fry basket to subdue Newhuis as well. That reportedly brought him down to the floor.

Whataburger Released a Statement About the Situation

A Whataburger rep gave a statement to WFAA. It said, "At Whataburger, Guest and employee security are a top priority. We take incidents such as this seriously and are fully cooperating with authorities."
