Meg Ryan and David Duchovny, former lovers separated by time, find themselves with a second chance after more than two decades. Their missed connection from years ago takes center stage in the captivating first trailer for What Happens Later. It's Ryan's first romantic comedy in 14 years, since 2009's Serious Moonlight. Over the years she's become synonymous with the genre after starring in timeless classics like You've Got Mail and When Harry Met Sally.

Unveiled on a Wednesday, this sneak peek into the upcoming film from Bleecker Street, directed by and starring Meg Ryan, introduces Bill (Duchovny) and Willa (Ryan). Stranded within an airport due to stormy weather, their flights to Austin and Boston indefinitely delayed, they embark on an unexpected journey together.

Guided by the voice of a remarkably perceptive airport announcer, magical thinker Willa and pragmatic thinker Bill navigate their newfound connection. They're drawn together, experiencing a mix of attraction and exasperation, much like before.

"Relax, you're already living out your worst-case scenario," reassures Ryan's character, Willa, in the trailer. Duchovny's Bill retorts, "What? Being stuck here with you?"

As the night unfolds and the deserted terminal becomes their domain, the spark that ignited their love reignites. Now, they must delve into their past, understanding how their lives unfolded, what led to their separation, and whether love can be rekindled between the same two people.

"When people break up, they say one thing, but there's the truth they never told," ponders Willa.

Bill responds sincerely, "I was in love with you, and I couldn't just switch it on and off."

Adapted from Steven Dietz's play Shooting Star, What Happens Later is a collaborative effort by Ryan, Dietz, and Kirk Lynn. The film marks the return of Meg Ryan to the screen, her first role since 2015's Ithaca, which also marked her directorial debut.

What Happens Later hits theaters on October 13.
