Zac Brown Band bring their new singer and rock icon Chris Cornell to the SNL stage.
This week, Zac Brown Band announced their new album Jekyll + Hyde will drop April 28. To give us a taste, the band dropped by Saturday Night Live to perform two new songs, the upbeat single "Homegrown" and the much darker "Heavy Is the Head," featuring Chris Cornell of Soundgarden.
The two songs, as different as they are, represent the conflicting tones of the upcoming Jekyll + Hyde.
"Homegrown" features the band's signature harmonies and lyrical themes like small-town living, friends, family.
"Heavy Is the Head," is much darker, with chugging rock guitar riffs, Cornell's snarling vocals and an aggressive feel.
The latter breaks the norms of what audiences have come to expect from the band. Shattering norms is undoubtedly a trend in country music right now, and it's something we'll see a lot more of in 2015, not just on Jekyll + Hyde.
Here's the band performing "Heavy Is the Head" with Chris Cornell.
Zac Brown Band begin their North American tour in Nashville on May 1.
