Tim McGraw paid tribute to Glenn Campbell with a touching performance of the ailing singer’s nominated song.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house at the Oscars Ceremony last night when McGraw took the stage. McGraw performed “I’m Not Gonna Miss You”, a song written by Campbell for the documentary Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me, which documents the ailing singer’s final tour and struggles with Alzheimers Disease.
Campbell can no longer perform in public and was unable to attend last night’s ceremony due to his condition. The ailing country legend was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2011 and was transferred to a care facility last year.
He wrote “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” with Julian Raymond during the early stages of the disease. The lyrics are heartbreaking.
I’m still here, but yet I’m gone
I don’t play guitar or sing my songs
They never defined who I am
The man that loves you ’til the end
You’re the last person I will love
You’re the last face I will recall
And best of all, I’m not gonna miss you
Not gonna miss you
The Campbell family choose McGraw to give the performance, who tried to stay as faithful to the original recording as he could. You can watch the music video for the original song below.
