While much of the coverage of Chet Hanks, the son of Tom Hanks, has a mocking or critical tone, it has been unclear what the Oscar-winning actor thinks of his son's musical projects. Until now.

Tom was spotted in the audience at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, over the weekend, watching a performance of Chet's country band, Something Out West.
Tom Hanks Loves Chet Hanks' Music
The clip begins with a shot of Chet and his band performing the song "You Better Run" at the Toyota Music Den on Saturday, April 25.
Then the camera pans to show Tom wearing a grey jacket, glasses, and a cowboy hat. He's bobbing his head and singing along to every word of the song.
The text at the top of the video reads, "Watching Chet hanks then realizing his dad is next to me."
The band then posted a photo of themselves after its set with the caption, "We were there man." Both Tom and his wife, Rita Wilson, are in the pic. The actress wrote in the comments, "Such a fantastic set!!!!!"
Tom Hanks Showed His Support for Chet Last Year, Too
Something Out West is a collaboration between Chet and his friend Drew Arthur. It released "You Better Run" last year, along with a video filled with references to one of Tom's biggest hits, Forrest Gump.
When we wrote about the song in April, we called it "uninspired."
"It's as though the song was written with the movie in mind as an excuse to flex his famous dad for attention," we wrote. "Something Out West did everything they could to make the song a success. Everything apart from writing genuine, authentic, and interesting lyrics, that is."
Tom actually appears in the video, channeling his iconic character by sitting on a bench and making "lost and disappointed faces at the camera." However, the clip ends with Tom and Chet embracing. It's admittedly a cute scene between the father and son.
Though opinions on the song may differ, it is rather nice that Tom supports Chet no matter what.
