The two longtime friends have each enjoyed incredibly successful years. Luke Bryan released his fifth studio album Kill The Lights, while Little Big Town hit a new level of stardom with their somewhat controversial hit “Girl Crush.” Their importance as individual artists was never more apparent as their sassy duet was only one of two country performances during the award show.
It was obvious that the two friends were having a great time as they infused attitude and some sex appeal into their spirited and lighthearted performance. The song acts as a lyrical kiss-off to an ex after finding the one (or, at least, the one for the night) while hitting the honky tonks. The track aims directly at Bryan’s target audience by featuring the predictable qualities of his previous singles, but Fairchild’s vocals help breath some life into the single person’s anthem.
Bryan walked away from the ceremony with the award for Favorite Country Male Artist for the fourth straight year. Little Big Town was also nominated for Favorite Duo or Group Country, but sadly lost out to bro-country faves Florida Georgia Line.
