Adele and Darius Rucker Cover Lady Antebellum’s ‘Need You Now’

Before Adele was making us all cry with her record-breaking single “Hello”, she teamed up with Darius Rucker to cover one of Lady Antebellum‘s biggest hits.

During the 2010 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony, the unexpected collaboration resulted in one of the best moments of the entire night. The sultry and soulful version from these two celebrated artists even brought tears to the eyes of vocalist Hillary Scott.

Although Adele might not seem like the most obvious choice to cover the song, the pop star says the country track has a special place in her heart.

“It’s one of those songs that everyone loves and everyone can relate to,” Adele told CMT of the Lady Antebellum track. “It’s one of those timeless songs. I’ve never heard two voices work so brilliantly either. It was incredible. I saw them live in Minneapolis about a month before the CMT [special], and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.”

This year’s CMT Artists of the Year event, which will recognize Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big TownLuke Bryan and Sam Hunt, will likely supply more memorable collaborations like this one. You can tune into this year’s special, broadcast live from Nashville, on Dec. 2 at 8/7c on CMT.
