It’s been a breakthrough year for Chris Stapleton, whose debut album Traveller beat the odds by breaking into the mainstream country consciousness. Although he had been renowned for years as a talented songwriter and musician during his days with The SteelDrivers, his first solo album has pushed him into a new spotlight.
Over the weekend, Stapleton stopped by CBS This Morning‘s “Saturday Sessions” to perform the classic country track “Tennessee Whiskey”. The song was made famous by George Jones back in 1983 and was rerecorded by Stapleton to be included on Traveller. On an album full of incredible tracks, it remains a stand-out because of the emotion and swagger he infuses into each line.
During his trip to the CBS studios, he turned the stark television studio setting into a dark and smoky honky-tonk. In the video below, you’ll see the Kentucky-native put his entire heart into the performance, as he and his wife Morgane, who sings harmony, share meaningful glances throughout. The track is one of the most well-received by crowds during his live shows, and it only takes one listen to see why.
