Underneath the harvest moon and a blanket of stars, Carrie Underwood escapes her dizzying superstar life in the big ole city out into the countryside for her latest music video.
"Heartbeat", the second single from her fifth studio album Storyteller, is a smooth waltz-like romancer co-written with Zach Crowell, the producer of Sam Hunt's Montevallo, and Ashely Gorley who has worked with Luke Bryan and Brett Eldredge.
In the clip, Underwood can be seen dancing in her barefoot in a flowing gown, swaying to the rhythm of a, well, heartbeat. As she basks in nature and firefly glow around her, she professes, "I want to feel it like a kick drum, beating fast in your chest. I want to feel you holding on to me and make me hold my breath." There she goes, getting us right in the feels.
Like a cricket choir in the background, Hunt himself makes a delicate appearance to supply ample harmonies. The guy behind many of the year's biggest hits, including "Take Your Time" and the rowdy "House Party," couldn't be a better fit to ground Underwood's equally-cool vocal.
It's a real shame that the R&B-spun "Heartbeat" isn't a proper duet. The simple vividness of the narrative is a sweltering release from the singer's typically-in-your-face crowd-stompers. The track is doused with just enough finesse to quench the thirst like a fine red wine.
