Ben Haggard put out a video on his YouTube channel just one day ago and it has already garnered nearly 25,000 views. The simple but emotion-filled clip features Ben performing his late father, Merle Haggard’s, classic song, “Silver Wings.”
Since Merle’s passing on April 6th, numerous big names in country music have paid tribute to the legend in song. Some wonderful ones were Toby Keith’s medley of Haggard songs at the ACC Awards and Chris Stapleton’s rendition of “I Started Loving You Today.”
Merle’s song, “Silver Wings,” is one of the all time greats in classic country. It was released in 1969 as part of his 10th studio album, A Portrait of Merle Haggard, and was written by Merle himself.
Ben Haggard decided to play his father’s tune for his YouTube fans while also playing guitar. Let us just say, he nailed it. Not only were his vocals perfect, but you could feel his emotion and love for his father in his performance.
Merle’s youngest son has been making a name for himself in the music world for a while. In fact, he was the lead guitar player in Merle’s band, The Strangers, and has been playing since he was 11-years-old.
