The "Best Days of Your Life" singer has largely withdrawn from the spotlight in the three years since the death of her husband, Kyle Jacobs.
Did Kellie Pickler Perform on "American Idol"?
The May 4 episode of American Idol brought together several members of its 2006 cast. Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin, and Bucky Covington also made appearances. Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson also returned to the judge's table, setting the stage for memorable moments.
During the episode, Pickler partnered with contestant Hannah Harper. Together, they performed the Martina McBride song "A Broken Wing." Judge Lionel Richie praised their voices, calling them a perfect "blend."
He added, "The two of you make one dynamic performance. Incredible."
What Else Happened On "American Idol"?
Harper was named one of this season's Top 3 finalists. She will join Keyla Richardson and Jordan McCullough in the May 11 finale.
Harper has now progressed further than Pickler did in American Idol's fifth season. She placed sixth in the competition. Hicks won that year.
After her time on American Idol, Pickler achieved many extraordinary things. She built an amazing music career, married Kyle Jacobs in 2011, and with him, starred in the documentary series I Love Kellie Pickler for three seasons.
Jacobs died on Feb. 17, 2023, in an apparent suicide. He was 49. He was a songwriter who collaborated with Pickler, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, and Kelly Clarkson, and in 2014 won an ACM award for producing Lee Brice's "I Drive Your Truck."
"One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of crisis, if you don't know what to do, 'do nothing, just be still,'" Pickler said in a statement at the time. "I have chosen to heed his advice."
She added, "Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul, and it's helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers."
Prior to her return to American Idol last night, Pickler had performed at a 2024 concert honoring Patsy Cline.
"I'd be lying if I didn't say I was not incredibly nervous right now," she said. "It's been the first time I've been up on stage in a while."
