The Marine Corps ball in Utah, which will celebrate the 250th birthday of the elite military unit, is scheduled for tomorrow, Jan. 16. Ahead of the event, Gunnery Sgt. Stephen Corson, needing a date, explained to local television station FOX13 that it's not uncommon for his peers to invite celebrities.
"I was like, 'I'll invite Ella Langley.' Nobody believed I would do it," he said. "It took me about three weeks before I actually made the video and threw it up. I had to think about it a bit. I didn't want to come off too bad. I think it came out pretty funny. That was the goal. To make somebody laugh."
How did Corson ask the "Choosin' Texas" star to the big event? We have the details below.
The Chances of Ella Langley Saying "Yes" Are Slim
In the very sweet viral video he made back in November, Corson picks up his phone and asks about the odds of Langley actually accepting his invitation.
Rather than shutting down the idea completely, the electronic assistant gives Corson hope, saying the odds of the star accepting the invite were about the same as a lottery ticket. So the Gunnery Sergeant decides to make his move.
"I'd like to invite Ms. Ella Langley out to experience core Marine Corps culture for a night," he says. "Now I would sing and invite you, but unfortunately, I haven't been gifted with that kind of voice. I don't normally drink Jack, but we can do that for a night as well. It might not be Tennessee or Texas, but I hope you are 'Choosin' Utah' for a night."
Langley Has Some Competion
With the video now approaching 2 million views and 160,000 likes since its November posting, there's still no word on whether Langley has accepted Corson's invitation for the January event. Fans are eagerly awaiting the singer's response.
"Hope she says yes," wrote one user.
Another added, "So you have a chance!!"
There are also plenty of young ladies dropping selfies in the comments claiming they look like Ella, who would love to be on Corson's arm for the event. But here's hoping this solider's dream comes true.
