When police were called to Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park, Florida, earlier in October, his parents claimed it was because their son, 3-year-old soccer player Pierre, was "too good."
Audio of Viral Soccer Dispute Puts Toddler's Parents in the Hot Seat
However, in audio of the 911 call obtained by The Guardian, one of the organizers of the league claimed that the child was being too "aggressive" during the soccer match. He also claimed that the parents had become disruptive and argumentative. The organizer also claimed that he was trying to be fair in letting all of the participants get equal playing time regardless of their skill level. In addition, the organizer took issue with the child's parents livestreaming the entire interaction.
When the police arrived at the soccer field at the park, the dispute was treated as a civil matter. A conversation about a potential refund for Nevada's registration fee was also discussed.
The viral incident has sparked widespread debate on social media.
"As bad as the men's U.S. Soccer team has been, we finally got our Messi, and this is how you treat him? lol...let the lil man cook," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"They called the cops on America's best chance to win a World Cup trophy. This kid needs sponsorships ASAP," a second user chimed in.
"Anyone with a brain would know the narrative claim that 911 was called on a little black boy for being good at soccer is foolishness," a third user remarked.
