New York City Wanted Posters Feature Health Insurance CEOs
A TikTok by the user @bbq_lady showed her discovering the posters on Wall Street. The video reached over 250,000 likes and over 5200 comments. She filmed three posters, with Thompson's being ripped and having a red X marked across his photo.
The posters say "WANTED" in big, red lettering, and below them, they say "DENYING MEDICAL CARE FOR CORPORATE PROFIT."
This comes just one week after a man shot and killed Brian Thompson, the CEO of a health insurance company, outside of a New York hotel. Since then, a McDonald's employee altered the authorities of the person of interest. Now in custody, they believe Luigi Mangione is the shooter.
This incident sparked discussions on social media about the distaste towards health insurance companies and how they often refuse to pay claims for medical bills.
There were two other high-profile executives shown on the posters, one of them also having rips. Otherwise, you can clearly see written on the bottom "HEALTHCARE CEOS SHOULD NOT FEEL SAFE." Below that are the words "DENY," "DEFEND," and "DEPOSE."
These words may sound familiar if you're caught up with the UHC CEO shooting case. They're referencing the shooter's bullet casings that police discovered with those words engraved on them.
This doesn't seem to be a real hit list, just a "fear-mongering social media stunt to incite hysteria," the New York Post discovered from sources.
There were many words written on each poster, but the lettering in the video was too small to notice exactly what it read. Otherwise, you can clearly see on the bottom in bold, black lettering "FIGHT BACK!"
This case is only a week old, yet the effects and blowback of the incident are continuous. Nobody yet knows who put these UnitedHealthcare wanted posters up, and the support for the alleged killer is ongoing.
