Virginia Hospital Shuts Down To Find Answers

While the hospital assured people they were halting admission to their NICU unit solely "out of an abundance of caution" something still feels off. Especially given the fact that this is not the first time newborns have suffered fractures at the hospital. Just last summer, four babies were found with similar fractures.
Now, this year, three more newborns have unexplained fractures. While the hospital admitted "fractures occasionally happen with pre-term babies since they lack full fetal bone development" they are still investigating the case. Besides halting admissions to their NICU unit, they are also implementing various safety measures.
The NY Post shares that those measures include the following. "Mandatory training for staff who interact with minors, refined examinations, new security, an observer system, and live-streaming technology allowing parents to view their babies."
Additionally, footage from the NICU has been provided to authorities for review. While no one wants to think of someone harming a newborn baby intentionally, the investigation continues to be thorough to weed out any possibility of the sort.
Luckily, so far the videos have shown no such evidence. Footage obtained from the NICU shows "no misconduct or accidental actions." Then the question remains, how are these newborns ending up with fractures? Until the proper answers are found the hospital has shut down. Additionally local police are working with Child Protective Services to find all the answers they need to keep these babies safe.
