Sometimes we rail against what life presents us with. It's human to do that. However, Gill said that you need to make the most of the life you have rather than wishing fruitliessly for a different one.
Gill's Advice to Grant
Grant recently appeared on Wild Card with Rachel Martin on NPR. She spoke candidly about the traumatic brain injury she had four years ago. It sounds like it was a frightening, frustrating experience for her. Grant turned to Gill for comfort in a time of great uncertainty.
She mused, "I just remember in the fall of 2022 when my world was very quiet. I just remember saying to Vince, 'What if this is all I get back? What if this is it?" Because, to me, it's like the world is in a conversation, and I am down the hall and in a back bedroom. This is like my response time."
According to Grant, he said, "Amy, life happens to every one of us every day. A virtuoso musician could have a stroke and never be able to pick up their instrument again. All you do is you just take the hand you're dealt that day and live the life that you get."
Amy Grant has had numerous past health situations to grapple with. Per People, they include a shoulder injury, open heart surgery, throat surgery, and a brain injury.
She Warmly Praised Gill for Being "Steady"
Two years ago, Amy Grant talked to People about convalescing from her brain injury. It was a grueling and arduous time for the singer. Through it all, though, Vince Gill was by her side, giving her his unconditional support, compassion, and strength. She said, "Vince is just steady. I don't know all the ways I lean on him. I'm not even aware of it because it's second nature."
Furthermore, Grant recalled, "He said, 'Things happen to people every day, and you just have to take one day at a time, and we're here, and I love you.' And that just kind of made every day of the journey OK."
