The news comes as the ABC talk show is being investigated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It has been accused for allegedly violating the agency's Equal Time Rule.
Why Is Vice President JD Vance Appearing on "The View"?
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Vice President Vance will be on the show as part of the promotional tour for his new book, titled Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. It will be his first time on The View.
Whoopi Goldberg made the announcement to the talk show's studio audience today, June 11. It came after a lengthy discussion about rising inflation with the other moderators. She also shared that the economy will be part of the discussion.
The hosts of The View rotate throughout the week. Additionally, Joy Behar took a break to perform her stage play in Europe. But for Vice President Vance's visit, he will sit at the head of the table with all six hosts: Goldberg, Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and former White House staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin.
Why Is the FCC Investigating "The View"?
In February, James Talarico, a Democratic Senate candidate from Texas, appeared on The View. This prompted FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to investigate whether the show was violating the agency's Equal Time Rule.
"They are asserting that The View is what the statute calls a 'bona fide' news program. And if you're a bona fide news program under the law, you actually don't have to comply with equal time requirements," said Carr. "They're asserting that they're bona fide news just like, I don't know, Meet The Press used to be, or something like that. There's obviously questions have been raised about whether they are, in fact, bona fide news."
He then added, "We've asked them to file a petition at the FCC to try to get some clarification on that. And we'll see where that goes... I think there's a lot of questions have been raised."
In addition, the White House has criticized the show. Last year, it called Navarro "stupid" and Behar "Joyless," a play on her first name.
