One of Freedom 250's much-touted marquee events, the Great American State Fair, has allegedly been plagued by problems during its opening days. The intensely-hyped gala seems to some onlookers more like a Fourth of July fiasco. There have been reports of pesky power outages, starkly empty state booths, and less-than-spectacular crowds, per The Daily Beast. In addition, many of the top names who were scheduled to sing dropped out early. They were supposedly uncomfortable with the occasion's apparent MAGA overtones. However, Vanilla Ice doggedly said he would entertain the throngs, no matter what.

Nevertheless, what he did not count on was the iffy weather. Vanilla Ice's gig was reportedly scrapped due to anticipated stormy conditions. Those conditions actually did not materialize.

According to a
Facebook post dated Friday, June 26 at 5:24 p.m., (the day that Vanilla Ice (actual name Robert Van Winkle) was slated to take the stage), there was expected bad weather. It compelled organizers to call off some events. "Due to inclement weather in the area, the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and the FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone will be closed for the rest of the day - Friday, June 26, 2026.:The message added, "The safety of our guests, staff and partners remains our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available. The Great American State Fair will reopen tomorrow at 10AM."
Per Variety, "There was no measurable rain in Washington, D.C., Friday night...."
Trump Vigorously Defended the Great American State Fair on Social Media
President Donald Trump, meanwhile, staunchly stood by the Great American State Fair, despite the reported missteps. He also took a few critical swipes at his Democratic presidential predecessors. Posting on Truth Social, he wrote, "Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it? Ask yourself this simple question, 'DO YOU THINK THAT OBUMA OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?' THE ANSWER IS NO!"
The Great American State Fair is scheduled to continue until Friday, July 10, 2026.
