Sometimes it seems like people react a little too harshly and judgmentally about what they read and see on social media. Many times, the content they dislike is actually pretty harmless. If they happen to disagree with it, they often do it with a dash of needless vitriol. Actress Valerie Bertinelli unfortunately knows that. Right now, she is in the hot seat because she recently posted a tribute to her late ex husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen. They divorced in 2007. He passed away in 2020. They have a son, Wolfgang. The actress shared a sweet vintage pic of the two of them sitting in a car to commemorate the anniversary of his death, per People.

When Bertinelli got a tide of nasty backlash over that, she launched some heated flak of her own towards her detractors. And she clearly meant every word.
"Coercive Control Is Insidious and It's Soul-Breaking"
Valerie Bertinelli, 66, captioned a video of herself on Instagram, "Strap in haters, let's go for a little ride." She emotionally poured out her thoughts about the mean criticism she is receiving from some. Deeming their behavior and attitude "coercive control," the star further defined it as "insidious" and "soul-breaking."
She firmly declared, "It does not take long for me to get a lot of pushback when I post a picture of me and Ed. It used to really bother me. It does not, not any longer."
She Resists Unkind Pressure
In Bertinellli's opinion, these online trolls are apparently cunning and relentless. Furthermore, she added in the video, "So they'll never quite say the words, 'You're not allowed to love your ex-husband, that's ridiculous. You can't love him.' No, they won't quite say that, but they will berate you and berate you for months, make you think you're crazy until you finally say, 'Okay, fine, I don't love him.'"
In fact, she said, "I learned a lot, and you can't tell me how I feel. Nobody can tell you how you feel." Valerie Bertinelli also mentioned, "I love Ed, I'll never stop loving Ed. And my heart loves a lot. Don't you wish yours could too?"
