The marine was tragically stabbed after a street brawl broke out in Wilmington, North Carolina. He died from his injuries in hospital.

A US marine has tragically been killed after a street brawl broke out in North Carolina. As reported by the New York Post, the marine was tragically stabbed during the incident.

The incident occurred in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina, at just after 2am local time on Saturday, April 4. The Wilmington Police Department confirmed the death of US Marine Daniel Montaro. He was only 21 when he was stabbed in the brawl.

Footage has been circulating online which shows Wilmington police arriving at the scene and pepper-spraying several people fighting in order to break it up. The footage also shows Montano tragically bleeding out and pointing to his neck, before police come over to try and help.

But, they have no idea what to do, "scrambling" to figure out how to help him. Then, a bystander shows up and wraps a piece of clothing to try and stop the bleeding. The officers have been criticised for not taking action fast enough.

The US marine was one of two people stabbed in the brawl. Both victims were rushed to the local hospital, Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Both had life-threatening injuries. Montano tragically died from his injuries just hours later.

Montano was a lance corporal of the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Marines Regiment at Camp Lejeune. He was from San Bernadino, California.

His Sister Posted A Tragic Eulogy to Her Marine Brother

Evelyn Montaro, his sister, posted a eulogy on a fundraiser she set up to help her family cover funeral costs.

"He was not only dedicated to his country, but also deeply loved by his family. To us, he was more than a Marine - he was a son, a brother, and someone who brought so much light into our lives," she wrote. "Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this unimaginable loss."

Police have released photos of a "person of interest" after the Marine's death. The man was wearing a denim jacket and jeans, with a pink T-shirt and white shoes.

What a tragic incident. May Montaro rest in peace.
