University of Utah Student Dies in Electric Scooter Accident

An accident claimed the life of a student at the University of Utah. It involved an electric scooter. Another student allegedly died by suicide.

The just-begun school year has already taken some tragic turns at the University of Utah. A heartbreaking accident has claimed the life of a student at the University. Even more sobering is the fact that it was the student's very first week at the school's Salt Lake City campus, per People. The deceased individual was not identified but was from California. The accident occurred on Friday, August 28.

Per KSL, a statement from the University acknowledged the painful incident. It said, "University officials are providing support and assistance to the student's family during this difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences to the student's family, friends, classmates and all those affected by this loss."

The accident reportedly took place on the campus. Details have not been released. The student's family reportedly asked for privacy. The Salt Lake Tribune claimed that the fatal incident happened in a fitness facility.

Another Incident Took a Second Student's Life Mere Days Later

On Sunday, August 30, another University of Utah student lost their life. In that instance, the person allegedly died by suicide, per the Tribune. The death occurred in an apartment off-campus. A spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department conformed that, per the outlet.

Several avenues for help exist to serve students from the University of Utah and others who need mental health assistance. A statement from the University via the outlet strongly encouraged anyone who is experiencing difficulty to seek help if and when they need it. "There is no single right way to seek support. You do not need to decide whether what you are experiencing is 'serious enough' before reaching out."

According to the Tribune, resources for students include the Wellness Hub, the Mental Health First Responders Program, Mantra Health ConnectNow, and the University Counseling Center.
