The esteemed college announced that it will soon unveil an athletic center bearing the name of the late singer Toby Keith.

The country singer-songwriter, an Oklahoma native, was a longtime supporter and fan of University of Oklahoma athletics, and will now be immortalized on the campus of the Norman, Okla., university.

Following a "significant philanthropic commitment" to the University of Oklahoma's baseball program, an upcoming student athlete training facility will be named the Toby Keith Family Performance Center.

"Naming this performance center in [Keith's] honor is something that truly reflects his impact. His legacy will continue to live on," OU's head baseball coach, Skip Johnson, said in a statement. "Toby changed so many lives. This player development facility will further change the lives of future student athletes that step foot into the building."

OU Will Honor Toby Keith With Athletic Center

Construction on the new building will begin in coming months. The center will be attached to the Kimrey Family Stadium, with completion expected in 2028.

Part of a $49 million expansion and renovation of Kinsey Family Stadium, the indoor performance center will offer student athletes top resources for player development, training and sports performance.

"We're proud to support Skip, this program and these student athletes. To carry forward something Toby cared so deeply about," added Keith's widow, Tricia Covel, on behalf of the family.

"I know he would have loved being a part of it. We're honored to help shape this next chapter and excited to see what the future holds for Oklahoma baseball."

University of Oklahoma Vice President Roger Denny said that Keith had an "unmistakable pride" in the Sooners and noted that the school was eager to honor his legacy.

"Toby Keith and his family have been extraordinary supporters of Oklahoma Athletics, including Sooner Baseball, for many years. Their commitment has meant a great deal to our program, our student-athletes and our coaches. Their generosity has helped provide our players with the resources and environment they need to compete at the highest level," Denny told Fox 25.

"Toby had a sincere love for this University and unmistakable pride in being a Sooner. His family's continued support gives generations of players the resources they need to pursue their dreams.

"Naming our team performance center in honor of Toby and his family is a fitting way to recognize that legacy. To ensure their connection to this program will endure for years to come."
