According to the outlet, Mangione may have acted alone. In the past, he subscribed to several climate change as well as anti-capitalist causes. Of more particular note, Mangione appears to have a Goodreads account.
This account showed that he liked a variety of quotes. Some of those included Socrates and Bruce Lee. But of particular note, he also liked quotes by the Unabomber.
"Imagine a society that subjects people to conditions that make them terribly unhappy then gives them the drugs to take away their unhappiness,'' Kaczynski wrote in one quote.
"Science fiction It is already happening to some extent in our own society. Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable.''
Mangione finished top of his high school class at Gilman School in 2016. It's a private school. He also later attended the University of Pennsylvania.
CNBC said that authorities found a gun with Mangione similar to the one used in the case.
"We have a strong person of interest in the shooting that shook our city last week," said New York Mayor Eric Adams at a news conference Monday.
"He matches the description of the identification that we've been looking for, he's also in possession of several items that we believe connect him to this incident," said Adams.
