On Tuesday, June 23, Poirier addressed the viral video and the struggles he's currently working through during a post on Instagram.

"I'm at the point where I need some help. Walking away from fighting hasn't been easy on me, and alcohol isn't the answer. It has ruined my father's life and I will not allow it to ruin mine, my family deserves me at 100%," Poirier wrote. "I'm trying to do everything I can to get my mind right and take the right next steps."

The arrest from the now viral video occurred on Sunday, June 21, which, of course, was Father's Day.

"It's unclear exactly what went down on the airplane before taking off, but Poirier was removed from the aircraft, and he flipped out," TMZ reports.

Following his arrest, Poirier was reportedly charged with "Public Dunk." That charge can carry up to a one-year jail sentence. However, there has been no news regarding what Poirier can expect.

Throughout his MMA career, Poirier became one of the most popular fighters on UFC's roster. Before retiring in July, 2025, he amassed a record of 30 wins and 10 losses. His last fight came against Max Holloway, ending in a unanimous decision defeat at UFC 318.

Using his base skill set of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Poirier was a feared grappler who also boasted a formidable stand-up game. He competed in four championship bouts during his career, with a 1-3 record from those fights.

Poirier's only championship win came in April, 2019, when he defeated Holloway at UFC 236 for the lightweight title. His three losses came against Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Oliveira, and Islam Makhachev.

Hopefully, Poirier can get the help he needs to ensure he can enjoy the post-fighting stage of his life. There will undoubtedly be countless people willing to reach out and offering him a hand.
