Two men have died after using bat poop for fertilizer on their homegrown weed. Now, usually, Guano is a fantastic fertilizer due to bats' rich diets, but only when it's properly harvested. Just grabbing a bunch from the sky rats in your loft isn't advisable. Proper guano is carefully checked for the millions of diseases it could carry.
The two men who died from the bat poo fertilizer were not related by their deaths. One of them had bought the bat poop fertilizer online, while the other collected it from his own attic. But, both of them died for the same reason. They smoked their herb and contracted a lung infection, caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, a fungus that lives in the guano.

Most natural fertilizers are much safer than using animal excrement. When buying a poop-based fertilizer, it is imperative to get it from a registered retailer. There are many nasty diseases that can live in poo, and bootleg sales outlets probably aren't checking for them.
Ingesting anything, be it smokable or edible, has to have a guarantee of cleanliness. The two men who died from their bat poop-grown weed had not taken the correct precautions. As a group of researchers highlighted, "Given the recent legalization and an expected increase in home cultivation of cannabis, along with the promotion of bat guano for this purpose, it is important to raise public awareness about the potential risk of using bat guano as fertilizer and emphasize the need for protective measures, such as wearing masks when handling it."
It is, no doubt, a great fertilizer when used properly. However, mishandled or acquired from somewhere dodgy, bat poop can make you die.
