Live With Kelly and Mark co-host Kelly Ripa has gotten candid about her gum graft surgery. She had pre-recorded an episode of her podcast explaining her procedure and why she did it, per People.
The TV host talked to Survival of the Thickest star Michelle Buteau on her podcast, Let's Talk Off Camera. There, she discussed her gum graft surgery - and why she needed it in the first place.
"I brush my teeth too much," she explained. Sounds harmless, right? The TV host herself called it a "good-bad habit". "But, I've caused gum recession down here specifically, and so they have gotta re-gum my gums." That's a way to put it!
Buteau mentioned that it "sounds painful". It is - per the Cleveland Clinic, the surgery grafts tissue from parts of the gums to "cover exposed teeth roots" and "add volume to [the] gum line".
But, per the Clinic, the effects are good. They explain the procedure can "improve overall oral health," and can "reduce the risk of severe gum disease."

The Surgery Meant She Couldn't Talk
RIpa revealed that the surgery meant she wasn't "allowed to talk for ten days" following the procedure.
So, because of this, Live With Kelly and Mark experienced a bit of a strange happening... no Kelly? Well, it wasn't all bad - Mark Consuelos was able to fill her spot in with special guests throughout the recovery period.
"Yeah, it's painful," he said of the procedure. "But she famously doesn't feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn't use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it's bad."
But, the TV host isn't the only celeb to get gum graft surgery in recent weeks. The Full House star Jodie Sweetin also had the surgery - and revealed it was also pretty painful, per MSN.
She explained the pain was like she'd "got hi tin the mouth with a baseball bat" for a few days. "I had a black eye and the cheek down here was all kind of swollen and bruised, so yeah."
We hope everyone's recovery went, and is going, well!
