President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday of being "not ready for Peace" as long as the U.S. remained involved in talks to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The statement followed a tense meeting between the two leaders in the Oval Office, which quickly escalated into a shouting match, multiple outlets reported.

The confrontation began when Vice President JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of disrespecting the United States. As the exchange grew increasingly heated, Trump and Vance both voiced frustration with the Ukrainian leader's approach.
Trump took to Truth Social after the clash, writing, "I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations."
"I don't want advantage, I want PEACE," Trump continued. "He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace."
The White House later confirmed that a planned press conference with both leaders, set for Friday afternoon, had been canceled. Zelenskyy had traveled to Washington to meet with Trump and sign a deal allowing the U.S. access to Ukraine's critical minerals. The deal had become central to Trump's continued support for Ukraine. However, the discussion took a dramatic turn as tensions flared.
Trump Fires Back
The exchange spiraled out of control when Trump was asked about his stance on Russian President Vladimir Putin. Critics have previously called Trump's position toward Putin too friendly.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy has faced criticism for his own confrontational approach to Russia. Trump, in response, claimed he was trying to align with both Putin and Zelenskyy to seek peace. Vance, however, took a different approach, blaming President Joe Biden's rhetoric toward Putin for escalating the conflict.
"The path to peace and the path to prosperity is maybe engaging in diplomacy," Vance said.
Zelenskyy fired back, challenging Vance's notion of diplomacy, pointing out that Putin had broken ceasefire agreements in the past. "What kind of diplomacy, JD, are you speaking about?" Zelenskyy asked.
Vance countered, "I'm talking diplomacy that's going to end the destruction of your country," adding that Zelenskyy's approach was disrespectful to the U.S. He then told the Ukrainian president, "It's disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media."
Zelenskyy responded, noting that everyone was experiencing hardship during the war. "During the war, everybody has problems, even you, but you have a nice ocean and don't feel it now, but you will feel it in the future," he said.
Trump cut him off, raising his voice. "Don't tell us what we're gonna feel, we're trying to solve a problem. Don't tell us what we're gonna feel."
Zelenskyy attempted to continue, but Trump interrupted again. "You're in no position to dictate that. You're in no position to dictate what we're gonna feel," he said, growing more agitated.
Trump's frustration peaked as he yelled, "You're gambling with World War III. You're gambling with World War III, and what you're doing is very disrespectful to the country."
