The incident occurred on I-75 North in Hamilton County, Tennessee, on Saturday evening when a box trailer attached to a pickup truck suddenly combusted.
What ensued was an Independence Day-style send-off for the trailer packed with explosives.
Video from the scene posted by the Chattanooga Fire Department showed the trailer engulfed in flames while fireworks shot off in various directions.
The viral footage has generated over 3 million views on Facebook.
No Injuries Were Reported in the Explosion
Amazingly, the truck attached to the fiery trailer suffered no damage.
Cameron Parker, a Hamilton County resident, found the impromptu pyrotechnics show after tracking loud noises he heard along the highway.
"What is happening?" Parker asked as he reached a guardrail on a bridge over the road.
Parker decided to spectate the firework display roadside alongside other witnesses who wandered upon the scene.
"This is nuts. I literally pulled off to the side of the road because I heard it before I saw it, and then I came across this bridge back here. This is absolutely crazy," Parker said.
The Chattanooga Fire Department and the
Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Personnel from the Catoosa County Fire Department and the Highway 58 Fire Volunteer Department helped cover Tri-Community's district, officials said.Authorities shut down the highway, roughly 25 miles east of Chattanooga, as a precaution and to allow first responders to get through traffic, the fire department said.
"The trailer was full of fireworks. All of which became involved in the fire. And exploded during the incident," the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department said in a statement.
It added in a
Facebook video that fireworks "were going off in different directions, endangering drivers."According to emergency personnel, no injuries were reported following the fire.
